The Nokia

Ok, so when i got here my life was super boring with random spurts of business. As you may know, i didnt have much internet access and was unable to give good updates. So in my abundant spare time in the hotel i was staying at, i wrote newsletters and blog posts for when i would be able to connect to the internet. Here is a blog post that somehow never made it out. i just found it while cleaning up some files on my computer.

"I got a cell phone this week. It was actually a highlight of the week. I am now on step closer to connectivity. I also decided that they have perfected the art of cell phone shopping and use here. It is way better that getting a phone in the states. First we went to one of the thousand phone shops along the main cell phone district. This is not the store where you buy your phone, but rather your sim card to go in your phone. The sim card has your phone number and monthly plan on it. So you pick out your number from the list of available ones. Decide on plan. Your plan dictates how much you get charged per minute etc but you have to add money yourself. Think of it like a toll tag. You load money onto your phone, and as you use it, it subtracts money from your balance. the plan just decides how much it subtracts for each minute. Its kind of confusing but wait for the good part. No contracts. After buying the sim card we went to this awesome cell phone store. Imagine the cosmetics section on the bottom floor of JC Penny’s. This is what the cell phone store is like. There are TONS of sales people sitting behind counters who will show you a certain phone if you want. Then it gets good. You pick out the phone, and they go get one and open the box for you and test it out so you can see that it works and let you put in a sim card and try it. Then they give you a receipt and escort you to another counter to pay for it. While your paying, another guy back at the counter sets it up for you. Then when you return to get your phone you show them the receipt they show you how it works. Next they open up the manual, pull out the warranty card, and fill it out and send it in for you. Brilliant! Then they walk you over to this big prize wheel. You spin it and get a prize. I almost won a neon comforter which seemed to be the top pick but I got this red velvet bag instead (as seen in the picture above). Still kinda cool though."

This post would have been dated April 13th-ish being that the 13th is when i got my phone. Also, yes that is a picture of Abraham Lincoln on my phone who has quickly become one of my favorite presidents because of his second inaugural address. (Ole' George Washington still take the top prized though, just for being the MAN) The picture below is a nice little jewel i found on my camera from my last night in plano. It currently resides on the Nokia background. Special thanks for this post got out to my nephew, Ethan, and Abraham Lincoln.
